Responding the devastating earthquake, trade union conducted the International solidarity meeting among among 50 plus participants including Jacob Wienen from ITUC and many GUFs, ILO and other solidarity organisation, in Soalttee crown plaza,
The conference will focus on reconstruction, decent work and job creation

The program was initiated by Bishnu Rimal under the presides of Shalikram Jamkattel, where welcome speech was delivered by Khilanath Dahal including briefing its objectives. short documentary regarding impact of earthquake was played for the benefit of participants.

“Sink, suffer, self-destruct, Rise stronger, reconstruct” Lamb of God has mentioned once regarding reconstruction, which we should be in the process.

Labor minister Tek Bdr. Gurung inaugurated the meeting together with Jacob from ITUC and Silvana from ILO GB connecting three faction of the DHARAHARA,

Then the moderator read out the prime minister’s solidarity message, who has committed apology not being able to be in the meeting physically, but with us in spirit.

Then, in the process of speech, Jacob deliver his speech. he expressed deep condolence to the lost and then solidarity to surviver. he mentioned that labor can reconstruct the nation. majority of the working people in informal sectors and limited skill and social security, many of them are working as migrant. reconstruction process is hard but it is the opportunity as well formalizing informal sector and develop skill human resources to create decent job for the society with prosperity, it can be unique opportunity to lead better future and ITUC will be standing behind you for support in the coming decade.

Then, the moderator noticed the participants about solidarity letters from Union to Union as former LO-TCO from Sweden, FNV-Netherland, TUC-UK, DGB-Germany, BWI, CSN-Canada andd ACTU-Australia. all of them are in solidarity though not being possible for them to be with us physically.

Then, the chief guest Mr. Gurung delivered his message. he just extended solidarity and committed to deliver his opinion on the map-road in the closing session.

Seven Social Sins, sometimes called the Seven Blunders of the World, is a list that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi says in October 22, 1925 are:
Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice and
Politics without principle. It is relevant now when we are talking about decent work.

While we are discussing on the issue of decent jobs and reconstruction, we should keep it in the mind while moving in the process.

Seven membered roadmap Taskforce was formed including Umesh Upadhyaya, Sanjaya Misra, Rajendra Acharya, Narayan Bhattarai, Bruno Deceukelier, Maria and Buddhi Acharya.

First session:
Trade Union perspectives on the post-disaster needs assessment and International Aid programme on Reconstruction.

This session was started at 12.00 noon and having speakers in Panelists were, Uddav raj Paudel, Dr. Dipendra Bdr. Kchetri,, Dr. Yubraj Khatiwada, Jaap Wienen and Dr. Swarnim Wagle. after their presentation, participants went for lunch and stated Floor discussion at 14.23 PM, following people did the intervention

15. 23 panelist started to respond the questions raised from the floor, Since the question was not balance to all, time was not allocated equally. they responded as per the query directed to them.
The major points raised in the session was

Most affected people by the earthquake are working class, among them as well women and children.

More working people needed to reconstruct nation with additional skill
Insurance, social security, decent work component should be assured including raising minimum wage making sure of 20-25 thousand per months, which earn in the migrant destination in average.
Migration should not be promoted, though can not just stop restricting right to mobility. but, with increasing the decent work, should encourage to work in the country.The session was concluded at 4 PM with tea break

Second Session
Issues of Reconstruction and Decent Work Agenda

This session was started at 16.30 and chaired by Com. Shalikram Jamkattel Panelist were Pong sul Ahn from ILO ACTRAV, P. haridarsan from ITUC AP, Raman Kannam from GUFs, Brunk Deceukelier from WSM, Laxman Basnet from SARTUC, Mamado Diyalo from ITUC and Surya Shrestha from govt. Nepal.
The issues raised are,

  • good governance
  • TU participation in policy making
  • Decent work
  • minimum wages
  • OSH
  • Social security
  • participation in policy making dialogue
  • Skill training
  • Demanding share in the development
  • Technical education for future generation
  • Formalizing informal sector
  • The session was closed at 6.40 PM and all the participants joined the solidarity dinner.

Second day of the conference was devoted to develop an action plan under the name of Road Map, which has been attached below.
