June 20, 2010
An interaction program among Nepali living in Vancouver, Canada was conducted on 20th of June in Surrey. Most of them had shown their serious concern about whether new constitution will be completed within extended time period. at the same time, the question relating with status of NRN’s citizenship was discussed.
I had briefed the provision relating with NRN, proposed in the preliminary draft of Fundamental right and directive principle committee of Constituent assembly to as well as the major issues yet to make consensus among different parties, in the beginning of the program. Then the participants raised their concern for the clarification.
In the process, almost all of them were satisfied with the provision of identity card with economic, social and cultural rights, having restriction of political right. But, they suggested with referring the confusion in the NRN identity card act, to make clearer in the new constitution. The suggestion was valid as well. Because, there is some confusion in the act. At the same time, they raised different issues and position of the parties on the debatable issues.
Then, Bishnu Rimal, the member of CA as well as chair of GEFONT and Laxman Basnet, the president of NTUC-I explained about the present political situation as well as position of different political forces. in the process, they mentioned that scenario might be clear within a month, since government policy and program as well as budget must be presented soon, since the for next fiscal year will begin from mid of July.
Finally, I just clarified the constitution making process, where it has been stocked and initiation taken by CA member of new generation to pressurize the process. In fact, having 2/3 of the CA members below 5o years of age could come together and make draft constitution, can be the one of the way, was supported by all of them.
The meeting was really lovely, lively as well as encouraging for us as well very much. Thanks for all the organizer and participants.
